2026 Alps Divide Rally here I come. Looking forward to another adventure overseas on the bicycle.

It has been warm here but I’m in the mountains now and is a little cooler but still got dehydrated a couple of days ago so been staying in a hotel in Bardoneccia the last couple of days as three out of the four of us riding together got suspected water poisoning drinking from the same water fountain a couple of towns ago. It was a horrible feeling to ride with zero energy in the tank even on flat ground. I was going to leave today but last night I had major diarrhea and woke up to zero energy again. Staying one more night and now eating very bland foods such as eggs, cruskits and bananas and sleeping a lot to hopefully get the energy up for a big climb tomorrow morning then all downhill to a campground that I have booked in a town for the night not too far from here.

One of the guys I was riding with took a train home yesterday he lives in Switzerland and the other two left by bike one looked fine but the other guy looked terrible.

I decided to abandon the alps divide route at a little over the half way mark and have made my own route to Geneva by the EuroVelo track 1 to Chambery then to onto Geneva. A lot more mellow route that I have created compared to the alps divide route except for the big mountain pass tomorrow morning but will be better for me health wise. Made it to the halfway point though which is good but it’s all too much for me and my recovery has been terrible that this is a much better call then continuing on with the alps divide. Also my insta360 bike mount broke on the first rocky descent on day one and smashed the lens so wasn’t a good omen for this ride it seems.

Since this bicycle adventure trip didn’t go according to plan unfortunately but still managed to ride half of the alps divide rally, got myself to Geneva Switzerland via an alternate mello bicycle route, chilled out there for a few days doing some day tours with a highlight going to Mont Blanc, and also doing some easier short bike rides. Sometimes things happen out of your control but at least I did most of the things I had planned for this trip. Let’s see what the next overseas bicycle adventure will bring. Back to reality now.
