1 Jan 2019 – Yankee Hat
What better way to bring in the new year, then by going on a short hike, due to nursing a slight hangover. This hike is essentially a valley hike so was pretty easy and was only 6 kms and done in 1 hour 15 mins, but worth it when you get to the Aboriginal rock paintings. You could add this onto another hike when you’re out in the Namadgi national park when in #Canberra. The drive out here isn’t too bad either #jetsettingjosh #landscape #nature
6 Jan 2019 – Deua National Park, NSW
Last day of my christmas/new years break, I headed out for a hike 30 mins drive south of Braidwood. From the Berlang campsite this hike takes 2 h 45 mins and is 12 km long with an elevation gain of 250 m. Most of this hike is pretty flat but I would class this hike as moderate due is a steep 2 km section that goes from the bushland to the rainforest cave where Marble Arch reveals all it’s glory. Big Hole is aptly named and is 100 m deep and 50 m wide. Beautiful spot.
15 Jan 2019 – Selwyn Snowfields, NSW
During wintertime, this place is busy with skiers and snowboarders. Summertime, you have the whole place to yourself.
20 Jan 2019 – Box Vale Track, NSW
Managed to get out and hike this old railway mine track. It is tucked away only 1km off the Hume Highway halfway between Canberra and Sydney. It is a relatively easy track except for the steps and ladders down to the Forty foot falls and is accessible to pretty much everyone. Oh, but if you want to save your energy, don’t go down the incline cable which starts near the lookout, there is not much to look at at the base and it is very steep. Hike took 3 hours all up. To see the lookout, tunnel and falls, I suggest you go back to the carpark and walk to see the falls as the loop down to the incline and across to the falls takes a long time #hiddengem
26 Jan 2019 – Bradman Museum, Bowral, NSW
With it being Australia day, I thought it might be good to look back to one amazing Australian sportsperson, Sir Donald “The Don” George Bradman. He was an Australian international cricketer widely acknowledged as the greatest batsman of all time, with a test batting average of 99.94. Born 27 August 1908, died 25 February 2001.
28 Jan 2019 – Carrington Falls, NSW
What better way to spend Australia day public holiday then visiting the Kangaroo Valley in NSW, just off Jamberoo mountain road. #Amazingviews and the waterfalls are #spectacular #nature #landscape #beautifuldestinations.
1 Feb 2019 – Fitzroy Falls, NSW
The southern highlands in NSW is a #magnificent place to visit in Australia. It is a must for any #landscape #naturelover
3 Feb 2019 – Belmore Falls, NSW
Must find out how to get to that second waterfall as there were people swimming etc. Next time.
5 Feb 2019 – Lennox Gardens
On the shores of lake Burley Griffin, are the Canberra-Nara peace park and Beijing garden, to celebrate the sister city links. Such a great place to walk around and enjoy the sculptures, gardens and picnic/bbq or just relax under the shade #nature. Annually in October there is a candle festival which is even further enhances this beautiful location. Happy Chinese new year 🐷
13 Feb 2019 – Cooma, NSW
An easy 1h – 1h 30mins drive from Canberra is Cooma, the gateway to the snowy mountains in NSW. An excellent place to stop on your way to Mt Kosciuszko. After a coffee or drink break here, don’t forget to check out some of the historical sites that make this pleasant country town unique.
16 Feb 2019 – Multicultural festival
One of the best festivals in Canberra, the annual multicultural festival. Highlights of the performers and street parade at this year’s festival, video. Got to love a mariachi band. Click here to view the video on YouTube.
2 March 2019 – Enlighten festival
Another favourite festival is #enlightencanberra. Just gets better every year. Runs 1-17 March. Well worth the visit. Click here to view the video on YouTube.
22 April 2019 – Kosciuszko National Park, NSW
Last year I was here mountain biking but this year I hiked to the top of Australia’s highest mountain from Thredbo. When I last hiked Mt Kosciuszko it was covered in snow. Much easier and warmer without it.
24 April 2019 – Blue Waterholes, NSW
A 25km dirt road drive off Snowy Mountain Highway (suitable for 2WD only during dry seasons) is Blue Waterholes and Clarke Gorge, where Bimberi Nature Reserve, Namadgi and Koscuiosko National Parks meet. Very beautiful and remote mountainous area. Quite a few campgrounds in the area and also many wild brumbies which will wake you up in the early hours of the morning hearing them eating happily away.
5 May 2019 – Bimberi Wilderness
Took a hike in the Bimberi wilderness area with a friend this weekend. Attempted to summit Bimberi Peak, The A.C.T’s highest mountain at 1912 m above sea level but should have made this a three day hike as whilst we made our way up to Murray’s Gap early on the second day, we noted how long it was taking us as it was pretty slow going due to it be fairly steep, we decided to turn around and attempt the summit some other time, mainly due to the fact that after we had a 25km hike back to the starting point from Cotter Hut. Bimberi Peak is in a very remote part of Canberra and you are required to have a camping permit all year round, which are free. They only allow up to 25 people per night to camp in the Bimberi wilderness area. Next time I will take an extra day or two off work to complete this hike along with taking more food. Water is easily obtained from the Cotter River which is more of a creek really. So peaceful up here. Will definately return. 14 hours hiking 63 km with 1772 m elevation gain over the two days in Canberra’s most isolated area.
